"Planète Mer" is an association governed by the 1901 French law on associations. It works for the protection of marine life and human activities depending on it.

 

Laurent Debas

Laurent Debas

President and co-founder

Laurent is a specialist on topics related to fishing, aquaculture and the protection of coastal environments.

Laurent has worked for French public institutions (Ifremer and Inra, Région Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur, Ministry of Agriculture and Fishing), for the United Nations (FAO, South-East Asia) and for the WWF (World Wild Fund for Nature).
For more than 15 years, through various positions, Laurent has managed teams and implemented programs for the protection of marine species and spaces, for the sustainable management of fishing resources or the fight against pollution by hydrocarbons.
In 2004, he joined Jacques Perrin and his team on the movie "Oceans" as a scientific consultant and co-writer.
Since the end of 2007, Laurent has been a consultant to Nausicaa and dedicated himself to the creation of "Planète Mer".

 

Mathieu Mauvernay

Mathieu is a lawyer specialized in environmental law.

After completing a Master’s Degree dissertation on the legal implications of oil spils, Mathieu worked in a law firm.
Then Mathieu started working on producing documentaries on various themes related to the marine world. This led him to embark on several occasions onboard the Farley Mowat and direct two movies on the active involvement of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in Antarctica and Canada.
Since 2007, Mathieu has shared his time between the direction of a new documentary movie and the creation of "Planète Mer".

 

Blandine Mélis

In charge of Biodiversity

Blandine, marine biologist.

Over the past 9 years Blandine has developed and implemented projects to promote the sustainable and collaborative management of coastal and marine resources in West Africa.
In Senegal she worked with the national NGO Océanium, as scientific coordinator and manager of a project to create Marine Protected Areas. Then, based in Mauritania she was responsible for communications at the Regional Programme for Conservation of West African marine and coastal zones. She contributed to the development of synergies between conservation stakeholders at national, regional and international levels.
Blandine spent the summer of 2009 in the United States, taking part in a training programme about marine mammal strandings, organised by the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society.
Over the past year she has been working as a consultant in France for the Banc d’Arguin Foundation and Planete Mer. (Identifying a biodiversity project / feasibility study / development of project on environmental education and participatory science).

 

Genevieve Sabot

Diplômée de l’EFAP, Geneviève a travaillé pour de grands créateurs comme Roger Planchon, Patrice Chéreau, Madeleine Renaud et Jean-Louis-Barrault.
Elle s’est investie dans le mécénat social en initiant la Fondation CNP Assurances pour la santé, puis en dirigeant la Fondation Dexia France.
Spécialiste en mécénat et collecte de fonds, elle conseille aujourd’hui des institutions, des associations et des entreprises sur leur stratégie de mécénat.
Elle est notamment intervenue auprès du Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle sur des projets liés à la biodiversité et à l’éducation à l’environnement.
Depuis l’automne 2008, elle accompagne les fondateurs de Planète Mer dans l’élaboration de leurs programmes et la recherche de partenaires institutionnels et privés.
